In March this year I fell in love with some fabric at my local Spotlight store.  I thought about it overnight and decided that I HAD to make a Schoolhouse Tunic by Sew Liberated. I don't think I've ever worn pink before ... and I really love it! I had some fabric from The Fabric Store sitting around for months and one night I got so excited and just starting cutting.  Of course once I'd finished cutting I remembered that you are supposed to pre-wash your fabric.  Oops.  It turned out okay in the end :)

I made my first top almost 12 months ago, and I really love the West Water Tunic, so I made three.  I was pretty happy with how they turned out .. but that was it.   I've always had a pretty strong belief that I couldn't sew clothes ... I have tried over the years and it was always a fail.  A big part of the problem was that I couldn't read patterns, they spoke a language that I didn't.  I discovered with the West Water Tunic, (the PDF version of the pattern) that the instructions were clear and included great photos...

I recently discovered the Love to Sew Podcast, and it's quickly become my favourite.  I've been listening while cooking, driving and doing the laundry .. and it's making these mundane chores bearable :) I had no idea that I wanted to create my own handmade wardrobe until Helen (Blackbird Fabrics) and Caroline (Helen's Closet) suggested it ... and suddenly it's all I can think about. I decided to document the process ... let the journey begin.
